Lenovo has overtaken HP and has become the top PC vendor in the industry.  The shift in the consumer’s preference and their inclination towards tablets has resulted in the drop in the worldwide sales of PCs (Personal Computers). The PC sales couldn’t pick up and experienced continuous drop for the 5th consecutive quarter of April – June 2013. This has been regarded as the longest decline in the history of PC market.
A survey by Gartner came up with the finding that the China’s tech giant Lenovo has surpassed the PC sales of Hewlett Packard and has reclaimed its top spot.  Lenovo reached this spot by acquiring 16.7 per cent of the global PC market as compared to 16.3 per cent share of HP. Lenovo after acquiring the top spot also experienced a 2 per cent rise in its shares. Lenovo has become the sales leader of the shrinking PC market.
As the emerging market trends, the inexpensive tablets are becoming the first preference of users in the segment of computing devices and thus people are deferring or avoiding the purchase of PCs. An analyst at Gartner, Mikako Kitagawa said that we have been observing the PC market reduction as inexpensive tablets that are emerging as low end machines have become the primary consumption in developed and mature markets.
The PC market has been suffering and struggling hard amidst of people’s shift to tablets. It got little help from the newly launched operating system Windows 8 from Microsoft but it also couldn’t do much to help the PC market to sustain itself. Almost all the big PC vendors are facing these issues . The companies like Dell and Apple are also among the suffers as their PC sales have also went down.
