Airtel offers mobile subscribers free access to Twitter till 1st March 2012


Bharti Airtel is giving its mobile subscribers in India free access to Twitter on their mobile phones till 1st March 2012. The service allows mobile users to sign up for Twitter or subscribe to SMS updates of specific users (via shortcode 53000) on their mobile phones for free, even without activating GPRS.
“Today’s discerning Indian customer is increasingly relying on the mobile device for accessing everything from emails to music to social networks. In conjunction with this trend, we are introducing 90 days of free access to Twitter for mobile users in India,” said N Rajaram, chief marketing officer, consumer business, Bharti Airtel.
To access Twitter on their mobile, you can:
Visit mobile.twitter.com (with or without GPRS subscription), create your account and start following the people you want to.
You can also create new Twitter account by sending ‘START’ to 53000. You will be asked to select a username and password and once the details provided are approved by Twitter, your Twitter account will be created.
To follow a specific Twitter users, SMS ‘Follow(Twitter username)’ to 53000.
With this first-of-its-kind initiative, the leading telecom service provider is tapping into the growing popularity of Twitter in India.
