Vodafone, the telecom major, has approached DoT for demonstrating the compliance of its proposed pan-India video conferencing oriented service along with security norms. It is a mandatory step for starting any kind of communication service and Vodafone is looking forward to it.
DoT has put strict conditions for telecom companies to enable LIM (Lawful Interception and  Monitoring) of all types of communication on their service network in the event it is demanded by any security agency.  Vodafone has earlier demonstrated LIM facilities in the last week of April, this year which allowed intercepting and monitoring of video conference calls by the security agencies but Vodafone yet not received the approval for the same from DoT.
As per a Vodafone India’s communiqué to the DoT, the telecom giant stressed about its business urgency pertaining to the launch of  video conferencing services as early as possible. It requested Dot to fix up a new appointment for the re-demonstration of the LIM capabilities and facilities for video conferencing services to be offered by Vodafone to the pan-India.
Vodafone took this step after learning that the report about the April’ 2013′s LIM demonstration did not reach Dot from the law enforcement agencies. The strict demand for the interception of the video call and conferencing services was placed before the telecom giant Vodafone, after its announcement related to the launch of video calling and conferencing services over their 3G spectrum.
Vodafone currently possesses 3G spectrum in 9 areas of the country out of the total of 23 areas and is planning to offer additional features & functionalities to its users. The video conferencing service is highly anticipated by the users. Vodafone has a great user base in India which may enhance with this new service launch over its 3G spectrum.
