All those who have used Instagram in last weekend must have experienced this scam. Instagram claimed that it has deleted all such fake accounts with photos and information.
This picture based social networking site was reportedly hit by a spam attack this weekend. The scammers widely took over the accounts of users by posting some photos of fruits along with a fake BBC page that was promoting ‘Miracle Fruit Diet’. The site in short span of time got filled with quotes like, “Ever seen this stuff? I guess its super healthy, I m giving it a try.” These pictures and quotations in a very short duration covered the profiles of several users all over the globe.
The spokesperson from Instagram said, “Earlier today a small portion of our users experienced a spam incident where unwanted photos were posted from their accounts. Our security and spam team quickly took actions to secure the accounts involved, and the posted photos are being deleted.” Appropriate actions are being taken to safeguard the profiles of our users.
A fake BBC link was also attached with such spam photos, which was of promotional genre. According to reports this link has been clicked by the users for approximately 35,000 times, as said by PCMag.com. But it has not been yet confirmed that how many users have been affected by this spam.
Last week the famous social networking site, Twitter was also hit by such spam associated with some miracle diet spam. Now it is not sure whether both the hit are by same spammers or not. But the authorities have contacted Instagram for verification and more information.
